Stained Glass
About:
I moved to Maine in 1983 to begin my career as a psychologist, eventually specializing in neuropsychology. We chose Bowdoinham because of the good school system and it's combination of beautiful land and proximity to potential employers. It has been a wonderful place to raise children. When I retired 30+ years later, I finally found the time to explore my creative side. That was when I realized what an amazing artistic community we have in Bowdoinham.
Artist Statement:
I have long been a fan of stained glass, and I was completely hooked after taking with my first class. Stained glass offers surprise and delight: Portions of a piece may seem to sparkle or glow at certain times of the day; stained glass placed in or near a window will cast colored light that travels across the floor with the movement of the sun; and the color of the glass may change again when illuminated from the front at night. I gravitate toward using rich, vibrant colors and curved lines that evoke organic elements of nature, and using interesting textures and patterns within the glass to complement the design. I love the challenge of creating unique 3-dimensional objects such as a glass slipper. In my more recent collaborations with wood sculptor Wayne Sanford, I have enjoyed the challenge of designing glass sculptures that complement the natural flow of the wood-- or picking wood to complement the glass
