About:
In third grade I did a drawing of my bedroom and for some odd reason I won the city of Bath schools art contest. Twelve years later, I was awarded the art prize at my high school. I spent five years at Syracuse university as an architectural and painting major. I’ve had paintings shown at the Syracuse Gallery, Everton Museum in Syracuse, Kreske Gallery at Bowdoin College, University of Michigan art gallery and Skowhegan school of painting of which I attended to earn a masters in painting. I worked in public schools teaching art for a long time. On another note, I have done sets for several theaters, work designing schools at Alonso Harriman architecture,. Currently I am back designing houses for my husband’s design and building firm.
Artist Statement:
In my heart I am a painter and that is always in my head. I see everything I do as a painting. Fascinators are my aesthetics, my paintings, worn on the head. I build these as if I am painting and I am quite abstract! I focus in two dimensions and losemyself in my work. The rhinestone medallions on my Fascinators are small abstract paintings. In that sense I am painting. Opposite and sublimely my paintings are huge! My influences for forty years are my stability, Larry Poons, Jackson Pollack and Darrel Highto. All abstract painters. I love studying their work and their work makes me instinctively creative. My heart smiles when I am working and I am full of joy!
